Title:  Avarice
Author: Severed Lies
Word Count: 100
Rating: G
Characters: Severus Snape
Challenge #281: Cauldrons and Snitches

Severus loathed to admit that the little dragon was more adept at bribery than a second year should be.

His refusal to allow the solid gold snitches at practice, despite the pouting lips and threatened tears, despite the gleaming gold, platinum and iridium cauldrons presented for his personal use, did not sit well with either father or son.

Severus employed a marked effort to withstand the outrageous offers of hard to obtain potions ingredients and the enticements of rare books.

He had to agree with Plutarch, however, that access to the Egyptian Serapea was worth the remainder of his integrity.

(A/N: Egyptian Serapea is the Library of Alexandria)

Dear Severus is a Slytherin, after all! And this small concession has not come cheaply! I am also glad of the classical reference though I shamefully do not know it. Another fine drabble! 8^)

Did Plutarch say that? I would say it too--I would kill to be able to get into the Library of Alexandria. I regard its loss as one of the greatest tragedies (in addition to the loss of Hadrian's autobiography and all those missing Greek plays).

Anyway, as for this, I really like it. I like the title, and I like the suggestion of other characters, such as Draco and Lucius, without ever explicitly saying anything. Very nice. :)
