Challenge #320: "The Cardinal Directions: South". This week's challenge is the second of four challenges focusing on the cardinal directions. Feel free to think of "South" in terms of the direction itself, a location down south, or any of the alternatives that wikipedia lists as long as your drabble focuses on "South" and Severus Snape.

Challenge:#319: "The Cardinal Directions: North".
Word Count: 100
Author's note: In the Russian version of HP Snape is called Северус Снегг (Severus Snegg) which translates as 'North Snow'.

'Sever' was the Russian word for 'north', a fact that amused Severus. To his Siberian neighbours he was known as Mr Norman. While they taught him how to drill holes in the ice and catch fish, he plotted his return to England. Like a Norman conqueror he would vanquish his enemies; in a storm of hail and snow he would smash them.

Winters passed. Severus's hair turned white. They called him Father Snegg now and revered him as a healer. He taught their children how to brew simple ointments, and when news of his acquittal finally reached him, he stayed.

Challenge #318: "The Dursleys, Redux" This week's challenge is a slight modification of [livejournal.com profile] torino10154's suggestion in the Snape 100
Suggestion Box
that we have a Petunia Dursley challenge. Focusing on Snape and Petunia is a wonderful idea, given the potential shared history, but this week's challenge is also open to drabbles about Snape and either Dudley or Vernon as well.

(note: there was a Dursley challenge five years ago, but now we know so much more about them!)

Challenge #317: "Help" Whether it's about Snape being helped in childhood by an unknown Muggle or Snape helping victims of the Death Eaters or even Snape and a friend watching the Beatles' movie Help, anything goes this week as long as your drabble focuses on Severus Snape and something related to "help."

***

Note: It probably isn't hard to guess that this week's challenge was created with the earthquake relief efforts of the all-fandoms [profile] help_haiti community in mind. While I have sympathy for those who might say that fandom is where they go to escape real life disasters, from my perspective, the situation in Haiti is too big and too catastrophic to ignore, and I would encourage anybody who's able to either participate in [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti or to donate to one of the organizations on this post

Challenge #316: "Fifty" To further mark Severus Snape's fiftieth birthday, this week's challenge is a blatant theft of [insanejournal.com profile] snarry100's challenge. However! Since Snape's birthday has now passed, your drabble can focus on anything that's 50-related. The fifty yard line. The fifty states in the USA. Anything at all, as long as it focuses on Snape and Fifty.c

Title: New Year's Eve
Author: Delphi
Pairing: Severus Snape/Argus Filch

Challenge: #314: The First Footer
Word Count: 100
Notes: This was actually written a couple of weeks ago as a Christmas card drabble for a friend, but I couldn't resist posting it here when I saw this week's challenge.

He'd make a good first-foot, Severus Snape - tall and dark and never without a coin in his pocket.

They meet for a drink, toasting the old ram and the newborn lamb.

"Good riddance," Severus spits, and Argus nods his grim agreement.

They drink just enough to excuse it: the first clumsy touch, the messy kiss. A hard bite; a hiss.

And Argus might have it backwards, but he figures it can't help but be a better year ahead when Severus Snape steps over the threshold to his rooms on New Year's Eve and doesn't come out again until the 2nd.

Challenge: #314: "The First-Footer"
Word Count: 100
Pairing: Snape/Lupin

Madam Mimbletonia - named for the boils that covered (not only) her face - bottled the Wolfsbane, cursing the mangy wolf who kept her busy on days like this. The potion had to be delivered tonight and all her delivery owls had fled to avoid those blasted Muggle fireworks.

The clock had long struck midnight when she banged on Lupin's door. A grin plastered on his (not quite) ugly face, the wolf talked gibberish to her, "Tall, dark-haired, male - good fortune for sure."

Realising the Polyjuice had worn off, Severus crossed the threshold. Lupin's exuberant thanks weren't completely unwelcome.

Challenge #314: "The First Footer" This week's challenge focuses on the (British) New Year's Eve tradition known as the first foot (for more information surrounding this tradition, take a look at the Wikipedia 'First Foot' entry. Your drabble can center on anything related to this tradition as long as your focus remains on Severus Snape.

Challenge #313: "Snape's Holiday Season" This week's challenge focuses on the Holiday Season. Hanukkah has just ended and the islamic New Year has just passed - and Kwanzaa, Yule, and Christmas are on the way . Challenge #312: "...and Dance" This week's challenge is the second of two that combine to be "Song and Dance" (prompted by me seeing a program about show choirs. Yes, it's true that "song and dance" doesn't immediately make one think "Snape!" (*g*) but that's why it's a challenge. This week, your 100 word drabble can be about Snape dancing (the Hustle? the Tango? Morris Dancing?), Snape watching a dance (the kind that involves the shedding of clothing?), somebody asking Snape to dance, ...really anything you want as long as your drabble features Severus Snape and Dance.

Challenge: #310: "The Unwritten Pairing"
Word Count: 200
Pairings: Severus/???, Remus/Severus

The cold clawed at his skin. Remus pulled the too-thin duvet up to his nose and rolled over, craving the warmth of another body. In vain. Severus's side of the bed was empty. There was the strange noise again, the high-pitched jingle that had woken him. Remus knew that sound from long ago. He hadn't heard it in over thirty years. Santa didn't come to the houses of little werewolves.

On Santa's lap, Severus looked diminutive, not bigger than a child. Surrounded by red arms, he wriggled and squirmed. He even appeared to be, Remus could hardly believe it, happy.

Santa filled the dungeon with his ho-ho-hos. The scent of mulled wine was heavy in the air. About to turn away from the door crack, Remus froze. Why did Severus pull Santa's beard? And why was he kissing him like that?

Then Santa was gone. "Did I match your fantasy?" Tonks asked, pulling Severus into another embrace.

Remus woke with a cry. "It's all right," Severus said, holding him close. "Just another nightmare."

"Do you ..." Remus struggled to hide the tremble in his voice. "Do you miss celebrating Christmas?"

Severus's sneer was the most reassuring thing in the world.

Challenge #310: "The Unwritten Pairing" This week's challenge might be a bit of a stretch in that you're being asked to write a drabble focusing on Snape paired romantically and/or sexually (but not necessarily graphically) with a character with whom you've never paired him before. (Note: for the fight-to-the-death OTP folks in the community, feel free to tell your drabble from the perspective of the "delusional" imagination of the other party. *g*)

Challenge #309: "Wikipedia, Redux!" This week's challenge is a revival of Challenge 178 from May of 2007. To play, go to Wikipedia's Main Page, then click on the "Random Article" link in the navigation bar on the upper left of the page, and use whatever you get as your prompt (to make it more amusing for all, please provide a link to the page you're using). If you honestly can't think of anything related to your first prompt, try again, but no more than three tries please: this is a challenge, after all.

(Note: this time around, when I tried I ended up with an Evangelical Christian preacher, which seemed quite unrelated...until I realized the man's name was "Bobby Brewer." *g*)

Challenge #308: "The 'Other Family'" It's not much of a stretch to believe that a great deal of adult!Snape was shaped, at least in part, by the family in which he was raised. Bearing that in mind, this week's challenge is to imagine what might have happened if, at some point - probably before Severus started at Hogwarts, but possibly later - Tobias and Eileen Snape were no longer in the picture (for whatever reason) and Severus was taken in to be raised by another family. Would his life (and death) have been the same, or would a different environment have made a difference in his eventual fate? Write what you will, as long as your drabble focuses on Snape and the 'Other Family.'
